What a wine! Bravo @penfolds 🍷 RWT stands for ‘red winemaking trial’ and it is a standout. Barossa Valley Shiraz that really packs a punch on flavour but once allowed to breathe, softens so quickly into a silky tannin –a juicy and well-balanced wine. Well integrated oak throughout, a true masterclass in wine making! Why is decanting so important? Well here is a prime example… when you open a bottle of wine, some wines really do benefit from letting the air go through it. I don’t use an aerator; I simply pour the wine into a decanter or a measuring jug and pour back into the bottle. Therefore, you are letting the air through it twice, and helping open up the wine to its full potential. This beautiful wine was opened 3 hours before we wanted to drink it. I tasted it as soon as I opened it to see its journey and it did not disappoint. Goodbye Vic, a true gent, our eccentric friend, a say-it-as-it-is character, a loving family man and an honest supplier that we’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with for many many years. This is the news that we all knew would come one day soon, but bloody well wished would stay well away. It’s been nothing short of inspiring watching you play with the cards you’ve been dealt with such honour. To say you’ll be missed is an understatement. There’s tears a’flowin’ for you tonight mate, and we’re sending all our love to Maddie and the kids. Absolutely heartbroken. This is devastating news. RIP Vic Irvine You were the original ‘modest man with giant integrity’ It’s been an absolute honour to know you and good ol’ laugh mate! There’s only one winner in this tale and it’s not the winemakers, or the merchants. It’s the taxman! Shop small, and shop local — we need you more than ever! *at time of writing we’re hoping *just* 40% of our shelf prices will change. There’s a lot of absorption happening from us and from our importers initially so we don’t pass it down onto our customers if we don’t have to. So, if anyone thinks we’re doing dry Jan, think again!! What can we say… we’re absolutely delighted to have picked up this accolade for a second year running. A peer assessed, industry crème de la crème win that money can’t buy! This means to world to us and our little wine community that we’ve created in Sherborne. What a way to celebrate our 20th year of existence, and what a great way to start 2025… a year which brings many challenges for the wine trade. We’re absolutely blown away and can’t wait to tell you about what this truly means for us as a small indie in Dorset. I think we’ll be popping some champagne tonight! We raised a nice little bit of money for @sherbornepride too. This is what Christmas is about, coming together.
