…annnnd breathe! We love a decanter, but sometime …annnnd breathe! We love a decanter, but sometimes the simplest things work best. When you pop a cork and leave a bottle open, the wine only gets access to a relatively small surface area of air — hence the popularity of decanters. In the trade, however, the measuring jug is a tried-and-tested trick. Lots of air flowing through as you pour. Sometimes even a full-bottle pour into a jug and straight back into the bottle does the job too. Anyhow, you get the idea! P.S. This @somersetciderbrandy jug is from yonks ago and is one of our national treasures!!

Turns out all this pouring, popping-up, feeding people, hosting things and generally refusing to behave like ‘just’ a wine shop has caught someone’s eye. We’re officially a FINALIST for Bar & Shop of the Year at the 2027 @drinksretailingawards 🥂 Which feels particularly lovely for Sherborne to be back at the top — and for everyone who’s bought a bottle, stayed for a glass, turned up to a tasting, squeezed in for supper or followed us somewhere slightly unexpected over the years. The shop is still the heart of it. We’ve just got rather good at spilling out of it. Rather chuffed, actually.
